Returning traveller with fever

This is a smear from a 43 yo doing volunteer work in Uganda. She could not afford to go to a travel clinic located minutes from her house and did not take malaria prophylaxis. She took ill many times after mosquito bites and got quite ill. She was treated twice at a Clinic with artemisinin -based combination therapy and flew straight from treatment to the hospital with fevers. Smear showed ring based parasites- Plasmodium Falciparum.
